Hey coderGirls! I hope everyone had an amazing summer and are ready to get back into the school year. A new segment on the Code Forum are book reviews! Most of the books that will be discussed are going to be related to girl power and/or technology. Lets start the first review with one of the latest books that discuss women in tech, Geek Girl Rising: Inside The Sisterhood Shaking Up Tech. Geek Girl Rising discusses women in the computing field who have made impacts on the industry. Whether they started a not-for-profit or developed a product, these amazing girls have done something huge with their love for technology. The book was created by Heather Cabot and Samantha Walravens and was released earlier this year. Cabot and Walravens are both successful writers and journalists and decided to figure out why so many women leave the tech industry and how so many got interested in computing. The reviews for Geek Girl Rising are incredible. It has been featured in so many talk shows and articles and is even getting its own television show! I would, 100%, recommend this book for absolutely everyone. That is what is so amazing about books like these; they are perfect for everyone. It is a great read for the men who need to see what women are capable of or want to be inspired, it is great for women who want to be inspired by what potential they hold, and it is also perfect for children who want to see what their future may hold. Geek Girl Rising is eye opening and will show coderGirls just like yourselves what is possible in the world of tech.
